Types of Licences

For authorized solo flight without passengers, no licence is required so long as a valid class 1 or 2 medical is held. All flights must be under the direct supervision of an instructor.

In order to carry passengers, a Private Pilots License is required. This allows a pilot to fly unrestricted throughout New Zealand but not for hire or reward.

If you are looking for a career in aviation then you will require a Commercial Pilots Licence. This allows a pilot to be employed on certain types of operations.

The next step is the Airline Pilot Licence. This is a requirement for employment where aircraft are over a certain weight. Training to this level is beyond the scope of the club, however a commercial licence is a pre-requisite for this licence.
