The minimum number of flying hours before a Private Pilots Licence can be issued is 50 hours. The Civil Aviation Authority sets the syllabus shown below, which the 50 hours must consist of the following components as minimums.
Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
- Hold a current class 2 medical certificate
- Pass the following examinations; (equivalent to School Certificate exams)

- Complete at least 50 hours total time with the following structure

- Pass a flight test demonstrating all normal an emergency flight maneuvers
- Be at least 17 years of age
Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)
- Hold a Private Pilots Licence
- Hold a current class 1 medical certificate
- Pass the following examinations; (equivalent to Sixth Form Certificate)

- Complete at least 200 hours total time with the following structure
| 100 Pilot in Command |
| 10 Instrument |

- Pass a flight test demonstrating all normal and emergency flight maneuvers to a higher standard than a PPL
- Be at least 18 years of age
