Throughout the year flying competitions are organized, usually on the last Sunday afternoon of every month starting at 1pm. Competitions include; landings, forced landings without power, life raft dropping, bombing and many others. There are classes for the novice and experienced pilots. Winners may go on to represent the Mid Canterbury Aero Club at the RNZAC Area and National rallies. Competition days conclude with an evening meal, which is a good time to catch up with other members. The days competition results are announced and any certificate presented, i.e. Young Eagles, First Solo, PPL's etc.

The Members Services Committee (MSC) operates a bar, located on the premises, which is open every Saturday and Sunday night from 5pm to 9 pm. Throughout the year the MSC organizes a number of different social functions as well as fund raising activities.

The Club Captain is responsible for organizing club fly-aways, which are generally day trips to places like Queenstown, Stewart Island (photo on right) Milford Sound, West Coast or the Nelson Area. All the club aircraft go and everyone participating has an opportunity to fly the aircraft. If you don't have a license you are placed in an aircraft with an instructor so you can have a fly. Anybody at any stage in there flying can go on these fly-aways, as there are always plenty of things to learn for everyone.

To keep informed of current or forth coming Club activities, keep an eye out on the notice board in the clubrooms. This has the plethora of information from Aero Club activities to aircraft for sale. The Club also publishes a monthly news letter which is posted to all members.

We at Mid Canterbury Aero Club look forward to you becoming an active member and are sure you will enjoy whatever participation you choose.
